New Delhi, September 20, 2026: Domestic LPG consumers will need to complete Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA) to book refills at the regulated retail selling price with applicable subsidy from October 1, 2026, according to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
The government said the move is aimed at ensuring that subsidised LPG reaches genuine and eligible households. Aadhaar-based authentication is also intended to help prevent the diversion of subsidised domestic LPG cylinders for commercial and industrial use and identify duplicate or ineligible connections.
According to the ministry, 27.43 crore active domestic LPG consumers, or 89.9 per cent, had already completed biometric authentication as of September 19. Consumers who have already completed the process will not need to authenticate again.
How consumers can complete authentication
Consumers who have not yet completed BAA can do so through several channels. Authentication can be carried out during LPG delivery through the delivery agent’s mobile application, at the LPG distributor’s showroom, or through the respective oil marketing company’s mobile application.
Customers can use IndianOil ONE for Indane, HelloBPCL for Bharatgas and HP PAY for HP Gas.
The government has urged consumers who have not yet completed the process to do so before October 1.
What happens if Aadhaar authentication is not completed?
The new requirement specifically concerns access to the regulated retail selling price with applicable subsidy. Consumers who do not complete BAA can continue to obtain LPG, but the government has said they will not receive the applicable subsidy and may have to purchase 5-kg or 10-kg cylinders at market prices, subject to availability and registration through the oil marketing companies’ digital channels.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas said the authentication process is intended to make subsidy delivery more targeted and transparent while ensuring that eligible households continue to receive subsidised domestic LPG.
