Chennai, August 24: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has announced three free LPG cylinders every year for eligible families under the Annapoorani Super Six scheme.
The scheme will cover families with an annual income of up to ₹2.5 lakh, along with other economically vulnerable households. Around 1.30 crore families are expected to benefit.
The government will allocate approximately ₹4,000 crore annually, with the scheme scheduled to begin during Pongal in January 2027. Instead of directly distributing cylinders, the subsidy amount will be credited to beneficiaries’ bank accounts after purchase.
The announcement marks a major welfare initiative of the Vijay government and is aimed at reducing the household burden of rising cooking-gas costs.
