Agartala, September 21, 2026: Tripura is set to strengthen its cricket infrastructure with the development of a state-of-the-art cricket academy at Sekerkote and the near completion of an international-standard cricket stadium at Narsingarh.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha announced that the state government has already allocated around 30 acres of land at Sekerkote to the Tripura Cricket Association (TCA) for establishing the proposed cricket academy. The announcement was made during the TCA Annual Award Distribution Ceremony-2026 at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala.
According to the Chief Minister, the proposed academy is intended to strengthen training and player development. He said the facility could also provide training opportunities to promising cricketers from other northeastern states, alongside players from Tripura.
Dr. Saha also highlighted the importance of quality coaching and supporting facilities for young players. The broader initiative includes efforts to identify talent at the grassroots level. The TCA has reportedly appointed 16 spotters across eight sub-divisions to visit villages and identify promising young cricketers.
Another major development is the international cricket stadium at Narsingarh, where construction is reportedly nearing completion. The Chief Minister said the facility could soon allow Tripura to host national and international-level cricket matches.
The state is also working to improve cricket facilities outside the capital. Reports say improved practice grounds are being developed in places including Kailashahar, Belonia and Jirania, with the aim of encouraging cricket at the grassroots and rural levels.
Addressing the annual award ceremony, Dr. Saha said the government would continue providing necessary support to the TCA for the development of cricket. He also congratulated players and other award recipients for their achievements.
The ceremony brought together players, coaches, cricket administrators and representatives of affiliated organisations. Among those recognised was Tripura cricketer Abhijit Sarkar, who was felicitated for his achievements in the 2026–27 Duleep Trophy.
The latest infrastructure push marks a broader effort to create better training, practice and competition opportunities for young cricketers in Tripura, while positioning the state to host higher-level cricket events in the future.
