Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has shared a significant development in the state’s medical education sector, announcing that the MBBS seat capacity at Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) has been increased from 150 to 250 seats for the 2026–27 academic session.
The expansion adds 100 MBBS seats, creating more opportunities for aspiring medical students and further strengthening Tripura’s medical education and healthcare ecosystem.
Sharing the development, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Health Minister J. P. Nadda for their continued support in strengthening medical education and healthcare infrastructure in Tripura.
With the increased intake, AGMC has now joined the group of medical institutions across the country with an intake capacity of 250 MBBS seats, including Maulana Azad Medical College in New Delhi, B. J. Medical College in Ahmedabad, Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute, SMS Medical College in Jaipur, Madras Medical College in Chennai, and King George’s Medical University in Lucknow, among others.
The increase in MBBS seats is expected to provide greater access to medical education for students while contributing to the availability of trained medical professionals in Tripura.
“A stronger medical education system today will build a healthier Tripura tomorrow,” the Chief Minister said in his message.
