Despite existing pumping infrastructure, residents of Bhagyapur in Dharmanagar allege that a deteriorated pipeline is leaving families without reliable drinking water.
DHARMANAGAR, TRIPURA | SEPTEMBER 3, 2026: Residents of Bhagyapur Gram Panchayat under Dharmanagar are raising concerns over irregular drinking-water supply, alleging that an old pipeline connected to an existing pump has deteriorated and is no longer providing dependable service.
The pump is reportedly located near the Kali Temple, in front of the Bhagyapur BSF camp. Residents claim that although the infrastructure exists, water is not reaching households regularly, forcing families to depend on alternative sources.
The complaint comes at a time when Tripura is reporting major progress in piped-water coverage. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha recently stated in the Assembly that 6,49,500 rural families—around 86.50%—have been provided piped drinking-water connections.
Government tender records also show that the Dharmanagar DWS division is undertaking various water-related works, including pipeline remodelling, maintenance and pumping-system improvements.
However, these broader infrastructure works do not necessarily establish whether the specific Bhagyapur pipeline has been repaired or replaced.
That raises a basic public-interest question:
If a pump exists and water infrastructure is being expanded, why are residents of Bhagyapur still struggling for regular drinking water?
Residents are seeking a permanent solution, including inspection and, if necessary, replacement of the old pipeline.
The concerned Drinking Water and Sanitation authorities should clarify the condition of the pipeline, whether the pump is operational, how many households are affected and whether Bhagyapur has been included in any ongoing water-supply project.
For the residents, the issue is simple: having a water connection is meaningful only when water actually reaches the tap.
