Agartala, September 16, 2026: Tripura has intensified security arrangements ahead of the Village Committee elections under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), with more than 15,000 security personnel set to be deployed across the tribal areas.
The elections are scheduled to be held on September 28, 2026, and will take place after a gap of around 10 years. Authorities have been reviewing law-and-order arrangements and strengthening security to ensure peaceful and orderly polling.
74 CAPF companies deployed
According to police officials, around 74 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) have been requisitioned for election duty, representing approximately 5,000 personnel. As of September 15, 47 CAPF companies had already reached Tripura, while the remaining contingents were expected to arrive shortly.
The central forces are being deployed alongside around 10,000 personnel from the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) and Tripura Police.
Security personnel have already begun area-wise patrolling and route marches, particularly in areas considered sensitive from a law-and-order perspective. Joint patrolling involving CAPF, state police and TSR personnel is also being carried out.
Election preparedness reviewed
The Tripura State Election Commission has also held meetings with District Election Officers, District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police to review security and administrative preparedness.
The discussions have focused on adequate deployment of forces, coordination between election and police authorities, and ensuring that polling takes place in a peaceful and secure environment.
In South Tripura district, authorities have separately planned the deployment of around 1,200 security personnel, with polling stations classified into different security categories, including hyper-critical, sensitive and normal. Strong rooms are also to remain under armed security and round-the-clock surveillance.
Polls across 587 Village Committees
The Village Committee elections cover 587 Village Committees, 2,634 constituencies and 4,597 seats across the TTAADC areas
Following the withdrawal of nominations, polling will be required for 2,954 seats, with 9,820 candidates remaining in the contest, according to reports citing election officials.
With polling day approaching, security and election authorities are continuing preparations across the ADC areas to facilitate the voting process and maintain law and order.
