Agartala: The Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) has sanctioned financial assistance of ₹50,000 for the medical treatment of Soham Paul, a resident of Ramnagar in Agartala.
According to an official communication issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on September 7, 2026, the assistance has been sanctioned in principle to partially meet the expenses of Soham Paul’s medical treatment at Tata Medical Centre, Kolkata
Former CM and MP Biplab Kumar Deb expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for approving the medical assistance. Deb said that after the matter concerning Soham Paul’s advanced medical treatment was brought to his attention, he immediately forwarded the application for consideration under the PMNRF.
Deb further said that the approval was received within a short period. He also stated that in the past, several requests seeking financial assistance for advanced medical treatment had received consideration and approval from the Prime Minister.
As per the PMO communication, the amount admissible for release will be subject to the prescribed conditions and will be limited to 50% of the actual expenditure incurred or the sanctioned grant, whichever is less.
The assistance is aimed at providing financial support towards the medical treatment of Soham Paul.
