Agartala, September 21, 2026: Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha inaugurated a new Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Super Speciality Block and a modern Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD) at Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and Govind Ballabh Pant (GBP) Hospital on Monday.
The newly inaugurated facilities are aimed at strengthening critical-care services and hospital infrastructure at one of Tripura’s major government healthcare institutions.
The new ICU is expected to enhance the hospital’s capacity to provide intensive monitoring and specialised medical and nursing care to critically ill patients. The facility will support patients requiring close observation and advanced critical-care services.
The modern CSSD will play an important role in hospital infection control and patient safety. It is responsible for the cleaning, sterilisation, storage and distribution of sterile medical instruments and equipment to different departments and operation theatres.
The inauguration programme was attended by Mina Rani Sarkar, MLA and Chairperson of the Rogi Kalyan Samiti, Kiran Gitte, Secretary of the Health & Family Welfare Department, Medical Superintendent Dr. Bidhan Goswami, senior doctors and other officials.
The addition of these facilities comes as AGMC & GBP Hospital continues to expand specialised healthcare services and infrastructure. The hospital serves as a major tertiary-care and referral centre for patients from across Tripura.
The commissioning of the ICU and CSSD is expected to further strengthen the hospital’s ability to provide specialised and critical medical care within the state.
