Agartala, September 12: The TIPRA Motha Party has secured a massive early advantage in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) Village Committee elections, with 1,548 candidates elected unopposed following the completion of the nomination withdrawal process.
The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has also secured 82 seats uncontested, taking the total number of Village Committee seats decided without polling to 1,630 out of the 4,597 seats spread across the TTAADC areas.
With these seats already decided, elections will now be held for the remaining 2,967 seats on September 28.
TIPRA Motha Takes a Massive Early Lead
TIPRA Motha’s 1,548 uncontested victories account for nearly 34 per cent of all 4,597 seats in the Village Committee elections.
The BJP’s tally of 82 uncontested seats has further strengthened the position of the ruling alliance ahead of polling.
The final figures underline TIPRA Motha’s strong organisational presence across the tribal areas, with the party securing more than 1,500 seats without its candidates having to face a contest.
Political observers are closely watching the Village Committee polls as an important test of grassroots political strength in the TTAADC areas.
Total Uncontested Seats Rise to 1,630
The latest figures mark a significant increase from the earlier numbers reported during the initial stage of the election process.
Earlier reports, based on the position before the completion of candidate withdrawals, showed TIPRA Motha securing 1,148 uncontested seats and BJP winning 31, for a combined total of 1,179 seats.
However, following the completion of the withdrawal process, the number of uncontested seats increased substantially.
The final reported position now shows:
TIPRA Motha — 1,548 seats uncontested
BJP — 82 seats uncontested
Total uncontested seats — 1,630
Total VC seats — 4,597
Seats remaining for polling — 2,967
The change in figures highlights the importance of distinguishing between the earlier post-scrutiny position and the final position after candidates completed the nomination withdrawal process.
Polling Scheduled for September 28
With 1,630 seats already decided without a contest, voters will now elect representatives in the remaining 2,967 Village Committee seats.
The Village Committee elections are being held across 587 Village Committees in the Sixth Schedule areas of Tripura.
The large number of uncontested victories has given TIPRA Motha a substantial head start even before polling takes place in the remaining constituencies.
