AGARTALA, AUGUST 29, 2026: Tension prevailed near Agartala Town Hall on Saturday after Tripura Police detained a group of TET-qualified job seekers who had gathered to demand immediate recruitment and employment opportunities.
The candidates had planned to march towards the residence of Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha and stage a demonstration over what they described as prolonged delays in the recruitment of TET-qualified candidates. However, police intervened before the proposed programme could begin and took the protesters into custody.
The job seekers said they had been waiting for recruitment despite clearing the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) and meeting the required qualifications. They alleged that repeated assurances from the authorities had failed to result in a concrete solution to the recruitment issue.
According to the protesters, their decision to organise the demonstration was aimed at drawing the government’s attention to their employment concerns. They maintained that they had no intention of creating any law-and-order situation and wanted the recruitment process to be expedited.
The police detention reportedly led to resentment among the candidates, who questioned the action taken against them while reiterating their demand for government appointments. Reports said the detained candidates were taken away from the Town Hall area before they could proceed with their planned programme.
Recruitment Delay Remains a Major Concern
The issue of recruitment of TET-qualified candidates has emerged as a recurring point of contention in Tripura, with aspirants staging protests over the delay.
The candidates argue that they have completed the required qualification and are seeking a fair opportunity for appointment. They have also pointed to teacher vacancies and the need for adequate teaching staff in government schools as reasons for expediting recruitment.
The protesters are now demanding a clear timeline and concrete action from the government regarding recruitment.
Meanwhile, the Teachers’ Recruitment Board, Tripura (TRBT), functions under the Education (School) Department of the Government of Tripura and continues to publish recruitment-related notifications and information through its official platform.
The detained job seekers have indicated that they will continue to pursue their demand through further democratic protests if the recruitment issue remains unresolved.
For the candidates, the immediate demand remains unchanged: a clear recruitment process and employment opportunities for eligible TET-qualified job seekers.
