KAILASHAHAR, SEPTEMBER 26, 2026: In a major drug seizure in Tripura’s Unakoti district, police intercepted a Suzuki Ertiga at the Chinibagan Naka Point on Saturday and recovered 800 bottles of Codeine-based cough syrup, suspected to be covered under the NDPS Act.
Acting on specific information, police intercepted the vehicle, which was reportedly found without a registration number/number plate. The operation was carried out jointly by police personnel during checking at the Chinibagan checkpoint.
Three individuals were apprehended in connection with the alleged transportation of the consignment. The vehicle was also detained as part of the investigation.
According to the police, the consignment was being transported from the Dharmanagar direction. Officials are now questioning the arrested individuals to determine the source and intended destination of the seized substance and whether other persons are involved in the transportation network.
Police said the seizure was conducted following the prescribed legal procedures, with independent witnesses and an Executive Magistrate present during the recovery.
A case under the NDPS Act is being registered at Kailashahar Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
The seizure comes amid continued enforcement efforts against the illegal transportation and distribution of narcotic substances in Tripura. Police have reiterated their commitment towards the “Nasha Mukt Tripura” and “Nasha Mukt Bharat” initiatives and maintaining a zero-tolerance approach towards drug trafficking.
