New Delhi: The Centre has clarified that UPI transactions of up to ₹2,000 will not attract any direct or indirect charges on users.
The clarification comes amid recent discussions over possible charges on certain higher-value UPI transactions. The government said small-value UPI payments will continue to remain free for both customers and recipients.
The new framework also provides protection for RuPay-powered debit card transactions within the specified limit.
The government has further clarified that this does not mean every UPI payment above ₹2,000 will automatically be charged. Any charges would depend on the applicable rules and merchant transaction framework.
The move is aimed at protecting small-value digital payments and maintaining the wider adoption of UPI in the country.
