AGARTALA: The Tripura State Election Commission has ordered repolling in three Village Committee seats on October 3, 2026, following reports concerning irregularities during the September 28 TTAADC Village Committee elections.
The repolling will be held in two seats under Gamaria Village Committee in Matabari RD Block and one seat under Paharpur Village Committee in Amarpur RD Block.
According to the reported details of the Commission’s order, fresh polling will take place in Seats No. 3 and 4 of Constituency No. 2 under Gamaria Village Committee, while Seat No. 4 of Constituency No. 4 under Paharpur Village Committee will also go to repoll.
Polling for the repoll is scheduled to begin at 7:00 AM on October 3.
The Commission cited reports received from the concerned election authorities while taking the decision. In the case of Gamaria, reports referred to booth capturing and alleged tampering with ballot boxes and ballot papers.
At Paharpur, the repoll was linked to a reported discrepancy involving an election symbol on the ballot paper.
The repoll decision comes amid heightened political tension following several incidents reported during and after the September 28 polling. One of the major incidents was the reported shooting at Wareng Bari, where TIPRA Motha candidate Khachindra Reang and two supporters were injured.

TIPRA Motha leaders subsequently approached the State Election Commission seeking action over the incident and demanding arrests of those allegedly responsible.
However, the reasons cited for the repoll should be distinguished from the separate allegations surrounding the Wareng Bari shooting.
The counting of votes for the repolled seats is scheduled to be held on October 5 from 8:00 AM.
The fresh polling will now be closely watched as the authorities move to complete the electoral process for the concerned Village Committee seats.
