Agartala, September 18, 2026: A special food safety auditing and enforcement drive was conducted across areas under the Agartala Municipal Corporation on September 16, led by Food Safety Officers of West District.
During the drive, officials inspected a total of 10 food shops and establishments to assess compliance with food safety regulations, including licensing, registration and hygiene standards.
According to the Food Safety authorities, three food business establishments failed to produce valid FSSAI licences or registrations during the inspection and were unable to present the documents at the spot. Show-cause notices have subsequently been issued to the concerned establishments.
The inspection team also found highly unhygienic and unsanitary conditions at several food establishments where food was being prepared and sold. The department has initiated the process of issuing improvement notices to the concerned businesses, directing them to take necessary corrective measures and improve hygiene standards.
As part of the enforcement drive, officials also collected 10 food samples for laboratory examination. The samples have been sent for testing of their quality as well as chemical and microbiological parameters.
The inspection forms part of ongoing food safety enforcement efforts aimed at ensuring compliance among food businesses and safeguarding consumers from potential food safety risks.
