Panisagar, North Tripura: In a major success in the ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking, a joint team of security and intelligence agencies seized approximately 50 kg of Yaba tablets, reportedly valued at around ₹40 crore, in Panisagar, North Tripura.
The operation was carried out by North Tripura District Police, 28 Assam Rifles and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) at Panisagar Naka. During the operation, an Assam-to-Agartala-bound Tata truck was intercepted.
According to officials, a specially constructed concealed chamber inside the truck was discovered, from where the Yaba tablets were recovered. The seized consignment is reportedly estimated to contain around 5 lakh Yaba tablets.
One person, identified as the truck driver, has been arrested in connection with the seizure. A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Panisagar SDPO Kishlay Shishodia provided details of the operation. The authorities are continuing their investigation to establish the source of the consignment and identify other individuals who may be connected to the suspected drug-trafficking network.
The seizure comes amid intensified efforts by Tripura’s law-enforcement agencies to curb the illegal movement of narcotic substances through the state.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, reacting to the seizure, described it as a major breakthrough in the fight against drugs and praised the police and security forces for their efforts to protect young people and society from the drug menace. He reiterated the government’s commitment towards building a “Nasha Mukt Tripura.”
